DOL Changes Regulations Regarding Electronic Voting Prompts Changes to AFA Constitution & Bylaws

Date: January 24, 2017
Type: AFA Article

Recent changes to Department of Labor regulations regarding electronic voting as well as changes to the AFA-CWA Constitution & Bylaws have driven changes to our historically understood voting practice.  Effective this year, when casting votes with an AFA ballot, Members will no longer be able to re-vote or change their vote once their vote has been cast. Eligibility to vote will be determined prior to the ballot mailing. If you are eligible to vote at the time of mailing you will remain eligible throughout the ballot period. Any Flight Attendant that is ineligible at the time of mailing can still make her/himself eligible to vote by becoming dues current. Electronic voting remains the most convenient and easiest method for the Membership, utilizing the ability to cast their vote via the internet or telephone, regardless of their location in the world. These new steps will ensure compliance with the DOL decision on electronic voting and is already in effect. The voting will be for the nomination and election process for Local Council 25 LAS and Local Council 38 NRT, Officers and Council Representatives.
