Transition to the Flight Attendant 401(k) plan and Automatic Increase Program
Date: January 20, 2017
Type: AFA Article
As part of the implementation of the Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement (JCBA), all pre-merger United and pre-merger Continental Flight Attendants are now a part of the Flight Attendant 401(k) plan. This transition took place at the beginning of January 2017.
The JCBA also provides the company the ability to have a positive enrollment for the Automatic Increase Program (AIP). The company is implementing this as of January 1, 2017 for the Flight Attendant 401(k) plan. This feature increases Flight Attendant contributions by 1% per year on the Flight Attendant’s pay anniversary date until the Flight Attendant is contributing 10% of earnings to the 401(k). If a Flight Attendant does not want to participate in the automatic increase feature, they can opt-out at any time by going online to Fidelity’s website and turning the feature off. Since the positive enrollment is new for pre-merger United and Continental Flight Attendants, a letter was sent out on January 18th providing additional detail on this plan feature.
